The parish was established in 1963 by Fr Louis Boucher and sprang from the mother church of St George’s, Worcester.

Our local primary school was first to be built on the site and, for a while, Mass was celebrated in the school hall. In 1976 the current church was built, though it was intended originally as St Joseph’s Church Hall. The main church, to be located next to the current building, was never started. The presbytery, a bungalow on site, was built around the same time.

There have been ten parish priests since the parish was established and to date, two deacons. St Joseph’s was honoured to be the first parish visited by His Grace Bernard Longley after his installation as the ninth Archbishop of Birmingham in 2009.

St Joseph’s also has a thriving primary school, located on site, which is a one form entry and has 300 pupils on role. There is a welcoming pre-school available on site, too.
